Searching For Significance (3)

“The Lord raises those who are bowed down.”            Psalm 146:8 NKJV

Sometimes we catch glimpses of our significance and enjoy moments of self-worth.  Yet we can’t hold on to them.  Knowing this, Jesus said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?  Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father (Matthew 10:29 NIV).  In those days one penny would buy two sparrows.  Two pennies, however, would buy you five.  The seller threw in the fifth free.  Do you feel like that “fifth sparrow,” dispensable, disposable, worth less than a penny?  You look in the rear view mirror and all you can see is your failure as a parent, your failure in marriage, your failure in business.  Satan, who is referred to as “the accuser of our brethren” (Revelation 12:10 NKJV), hopes you never open your Bible and read these words: “The Lord raises those who are bowed down.”  God doesn’t consult your past to determine your future.  He’s fully aware of your problems, but He’s also aware of your potential.

The woman at the well went looking for love in all the wrong places. When Jesus found her she had five ex-husbands and a live-in boyfriend.  She was the talk of the town!  Jesus told her: “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst [for meaning or significance].  But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13-14 NKJV).  And what did this women say?  “Give me this water, that I may not thirst” (v.15 NKJV).  Today, make that your prayer.
